The Alzaia way
Near the farm there is a newly rediscovered ancient door which gives access to the historic trail named “Alzaia“, from which a short walk you can reach the town of Pescantina. The Alzaia was once used by Watermen using horses or oxen, to raise the current to river traffic that could extend to the Adriatic Sea.
On foot, by bicycle or on horseback, the Alzaia offers opportunities to walk and relax along the River, observing the vegetation and views not only of nature but also of human artifacts mainly related to ” river civilization“.
Much of the route is characterized by signs of activity that once took place along the River: remains of drainage and irrigation channels, wheels of mills and furnaces. Architectural, environmental and glimpses of the urban pescantinese, enrich the Alzaia scenic components, making it a unique route.
In Pescantina the Alzaia along the Adige river for a distance of about 11 km from one end to the other of the municipality, crossing the villages of Arcè and St. Lucia up to Ponton westward, or reaching after Settimo and Parona the city of Verona to the East. Recovered in recent years, has become a route of great natural interest.
